Real estate “teams” are all the rage these days in the industry. But, not all real estate teams are created equal.
One of the common models for real estate teams relies on a number of buyer’s specialists with a team leader who is seeking to build the team as a source of passive income and eventually step away. Nothing wrong with that.
The downside of this model can be that in order to build the team, the team ends up with a high amount of inexperienced agents. There is also a lot of turnover when it comes to recruiting team members such as buyer’s specialists. It’s a hard transition to take people from a 9-5 job to being self-employed in a 100% commission model, both from a mindset and financial standpoint. In addition, this model requires a high volume of sales to stay afloat, and a sizable portion of the local market to make successful.
Several years ago, my wife and I realized that this model was not what we wanted to pursue. Instead, I realized that rather than managing a team of agents, my passion was to help a smaller number of buyers and sellers myself. This allowed me to provide the best, hands on service and bring my 12+ years of experience to the table directly.
With that said, I definitely have an awesome team! My transaction coordinator, Dawn Burton, and I have worked together for the last 7+ years. She does a fantastic job taking transactions from accepted offer to closing. My listing coordinator, Renee Thome, ensures that we consistently follow through with our commitment to my sellers to keep their home aggressively marketed on a consistent basis on Craigslist, Facebook, and in e-mails to local agents. And last but not least, my wife is my marketing expert, graphic designer, listing quality control person and all-around business partner.
I believe that this “boutique team” model gives both myself and my clients the best of both worlds. It’s hands on, experienced, and personable, without losing one-on-one care, while providing the team support to deliver exceptional service to my buyers and sellers.
